About Council Tax Ledger

Council Tax Ledger answers one question for every council in England: how much is council tax here, for my band, this year? The official tables that hold the answer are spreadsheets on GOV.UK with hundreds of rows; council websites show only their own figures and rarely the precepts of the bodies that share the bill. This site puts each council's eight bands, the split between council, county, police, fire and parish, and five years of history on one page.

Everything comes from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's council tax statistics for 2026/27, published under the Open Government Licence. We add no estimates. How we calculate describes each figure.

What the site does not do

• It does not know your address. Parish precepts vary within a district, so check the parish line on your bill.
• It does not apply discounts, exemptions, premiums or council tax support. The single-person discount alone takes 25% off.
• England is the main coverage, with the full precept breakdown. Wales (22 councils, nine bands) and Scotland (32 councils, Scottish ratios, excluding water and sewerage) have their own sections built from the Welsh and Scottish Governments' tables.
